Treatment Philosophy
Dr. Hudson is dedicated to helping people live healthier, happier, and more productive lives.
Many people decide to begin therapy because they have tried for a long time to
deal with personal or professional problems without success. Frequently they seek
treatment during a crisis in which they feel at a loss regarding what to do next. A crisis
generally means that coping skills which have worked in the past no longer work. The
individual also may have various emotional and physical symptoms which interrupt normal
daily activities. Therefore, the major goals of treatment are getting help to deal with
problems and alleviate symptoms. Other people may contact Dr. Hudson from a desire for
personal growth.
Whatever the reason for seeking treatment, Dr. Hudson works with people to help them
help themselves. This perspective is important for those who believe that asking for help is
somehow a sign of weakness. On the contrary, acknowledging problems and meeting one’s
own needs can be a valuable personal asset that is a source of strength. Dr. Hudson does
not tell a person in treatment what to do. Instead, through a process of listening
respectfully to the person’s beliefs, concerns, needs, values, and goals she helps them
understand themselves better and make any desired changes. On the other hand, Dr.
Hudson knows there are many situations in which people do benefit from practical
suggestions on how to make these changes.
Many people find it quite difficult to make the first call but later say how very glad they did.
Dr. Hudson is sensitive to this difficulty and tries to return calls promptly. Others worry that
they might not like a certain therapist when they meet. Dr. Hudson encourages those whom
she sees to use the first one or two sessions to determine whether there is a client-
therapist match. Therapy, by its nature, can be uncomfortable at times and it is important to
be able to trust the therapist with whom one works. At such times it is important to
remember the goals of treatment e.g. problem-solving and improved quality of life.
